West End Matheran Hotel
A Journey to Beautiful Matheran to Enjoy Fun Times with Friends
We are a group of friends who always get together from time to time to hang out at eateries or travel to cities to enjoy their sights, sounds and historical landmarks. This time we booked train tickets to Matheran to enjoy the place and explore its many intricacies.
However when I looked into available trains to Matheran from Pune, I found that there were no stopovers there. The closest city was Neral, hence I booked tickets to Neral through the IRCTC website.
I Journeyed On the Majestic Sahyadri Express
Our journey on the Sahyadri Express was short as it lasted for only three hours. This train begins its journey at Kolhapur station and connects to various stations in Maharashtra and finally ends its journey in Mumbai Central. Pune and Neral are stopovers in between. Once it reached Neral station, we took a cab to reach Matheran where accommodation had been booked.
Matheran is a lovely hill station that lies in Karjat town, at a height of 2516ft above sea level. Developed by the British, it is the smallest hill station in the country and features lush greenery and an unpolluted environment. It is a protected zone so vehicles are not allowed inside the station, as they will cause pollution.
Accommodation Booked Was In a Three Star Hotel
Our place of stay was the West End Matheran Hotel, which is a lovely three star accommodation that has the latest guest comforts and facilities. Located in RC Church Road it has 22 rooms.
The rooms here are pleasant in their interior décor and provide latest furnishings, attach bath, telephone, wi-fi electronic safe etc. We had all that was needed for a comfortable stay at our disposal. Other key guest facilities are doctor on call, housekeeping and laundry.
Local Sightseeing and Wandering Around Was a Great Fun
After enjoying food in the hotel’s restaurant I booked a cab to take me to the places that I wanted to see. Our first stop was the lovely Panorama Point, which is six kilometers from the post office. You can get a beautiful view of the entire city from here as well as the Ghat Mountains and plain areas.
Standing from a vantage point here, all things below look small and we took many photos here. The sunset from here looks very beautiful and it is highly suitable for coming with family and friends for picnicking.
Another lovely place that we stopped over was the lovely Charlotte Lake. This lake is one of spectacular beauty and is visited by people from near and far. Louisa Point and Echo Point which are frequent by picnickers are located on the lake’s left side. We then let for Louisa Point from where I could enjoy further beautiful view of everything below in the valley. We also took a lot of photographs here.
We quite enjoyed my sightseeing tour of various natural locations in the hill station. I went back to the hotel from where I took a cab to Neral for my journey back home.
